01 The brief

The brief

Amazon's delivery network runs on DSPs - Delivery Service Partners - the independent businesses that handle the last mile. Over a few projects, we've told stories from inside that network: the people running it, the careers being built in it, and the things going on around it.

02 What we did

What we did

First up, a sustainability piece following a DSP in Cheltenham who were collecting and recycling Christmas trees to raise money alongside their regular delivery rounds. A small crew of three - two in a follow car, one in the van with the driver - meeting back at the hub at the end of the day to shoot interviews. It was a light footprint for a day that, between them, raised £36,000 for a local hospice.

Another film, this one about mentorship, followed two DSP owners in Gloucester. One had started as a driver, worked his way up and built his own operation, all while staying close to the man who gave him his first break. Another compact crew, with cameras mounted inside the cab helped deliver a fresh perspective. That small team meant we weren't disrupting operations in the DSP centre itself, which I can only liken to an aircraft carrier. Floor controllers with wands directing dozens of vans in and out, every driver knowing exactly where to be and when.

Next up we visited their centre in Swindon to coincide with International Women's Day, where we met Susan. She ran a DSP in an industry where women at that level are very much the exception. Being right on the floor with the crews felt like the right place for her interview, rather than one of those boxy side rooms that always look rough on camera. The scale of the space suited the story, although the noise made their comms lead pull a worried face. But knowing which microphones to reach for (and a little noise reduction during post) got us there.

03 The result

Three stories told from one world

For a brand this recognisable, the name does a lot of the work. But so does knowing how to shoot an interview in a working warehouse without stopping the place from working.
